Transitions timing is everything

Something fun and useful to think about while riding is what your horses hind legs are doing. Try feeling each time your horses inside hind leg comes forward. Take your time at the walk first, it is helpful to put your inside hand on your horses hip, when your hand gets pushed up that is when your horses inside hind leg is coming forward. Once you can feel that, try asking for your upward transitions when you feel your horses inside hind leg come under you. You will find that you have better transitions with more push from behind! If you have trouble feeling when the inside hind leg is forward have your trainer watch from the ground and say “now” each time that leg is coming forward. Here I am practicing transitions thinking of the inside hind leg. This tip will improve your overall timing and connection during transitions. Happy Summer!
