To achieve the proper saddle fit, your saddle billet should hang perpendicular to the ground so that the girth is not angled. While the girth will always find its natural position at the narrowest point behind the elbow, if the billets are angled too far back, the saddle will dig uncomfortably into your horse’s shoulder. In contrast, if the billets are angled too far forward, the saddle may cause discomfort in your horse’s lumbar area.
