In this episode of the Dressage Today Podcast, Stephany and Aviva revisit a previous interview with dressage rider and Mustang advocate Chelsea Canedy, as we plan to have her back on the podcast to discuss her debut memoir Finding Purpose: A Life Managing the Passion, Compulsion, and Borderline Addiction Called “Horses.”
In our original interview with Chelsea, she talks about her road to enlightenment on her journey with horses and how it’s influenced her professional career. After growing up in Connecticut where she as member of Litchfield Pony Club and earned her A certificate, Chelsea continued riding throughout college and eventually moved to northeast Tennessee where she discovered new horsemanship tools. She utilized and tweaked those skills as she expanded her business to a larger facility in Virginia and brought several horses up through the levels in dressage and eventing. Currently based at her Unexpected Farm in Wales, Maine, Chelsea continues to train horses and riders for dressage and eventing.
In her new book, Chelsea takes readers behind the scenes of a high-level equestrian life and into the inner work that sustains it. Blending raw personal stories with lessons from her decade-long meditation practice and career studying equine behavior, the lifelong horsewoman reflects on resilience, identity and the joy of choosing a life built on passion.
Whether you’re revisiting our original interview or this is your first time hearing about Chelsea, we wanted you to hear her original story, so you’ll be up to date when we talk to her again later this year. We hope you enjoy this conversation with her.
