Peters Leads U.S. Olympic Dressage Hopefuls at CDI Hagen

Steffen Peters and Suppenkasper are the top-placing U.S. pair at the CDI Hagen, a 2024 U.S. Olympic dressage team observation event.

June 7, 2024—Steffen Peters led a group of 2024 U.S. Olympic dressage hopefuls at the CDI Hagen Grand Prix in Germany Thursday and Friday, June 6-7. The competition is an observation event for riders vying for a spot on the 2024 U.S. Olympic Dressage Team.

Peters and Suppenkasper finished third as the top-placing U.S. horse-and-rider combination in the Hagen CDI3*. They followed Nanna Skodborg Merrald (DEN) and Blue Hors Zepter who were first. Patrik Kittel (SWE) and Jovian came in second.

Joining Peters in the Grand Prix were six other U.S. riders named to the U.S. Dressage Team Short List. Adrienne Lyle and Helix (5th), Endel Ots and Zen Elite’s Bohemian (6th), Anna Buffini and Fiontini (7th), Katherine Bateson-Chandler and Haute Couture (11th), Marcus Orlob and Jane (15th) and Anna Marek and Fire Fly (17th). These riders were selected to the U.S. Dressage Team Short List in early May for continued observation ahead of team selection for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games later this summer.

U.S. Dressage Team Short List Observation Events

A total of 48 riders competed at Hof Kasselmann in Hagen. The competition runs June 6-9, 2024. It continues with the Grand Prix Special, Saturday, June 8, and the Grand Prix Freestyle, Sunday, June 9.

According to US Equestrian, athletes and horses on the U.S. Dressage Team Short List must compete in a minimum of two CDIs between May 8 and June 25, 2024. They also must compete in at least one of the following Observation Events: Le Mans CDI4* (May 30-June 2, 2024), Hagen CDI3* or Rotterdam CDIO5* (June 20-23, 2024).

In the Rotterdam CDIO5* team competition, the combinations will be led by Chef d’Equipe Christine Traurig. US Equestrian will announce final 2024 U.S. Olympic Team selection by June 25.

The Olympic dressage teams will be made up of three horse-and-rider pairs, plus one traveling reserve.
