Jochen Schleese Saddle Fitting Tip 2 – Wither Clearance

Clearance at the withers should be 2-3 fingers for normal withers, mutton withers will have more clearance, and high withers will have less clearance. Clearance should be all around, not just at the top.

For a proper saddle fit, your saddle should fit your horse’s withers. Wither clearance is an important part of horse saddle fitting: your horse’s withers can be damaged by an improperly fit saddle. Watch this horse saddle fitting video for some saddle fit tips on how to make your saddle fits your horse’s withers correctly!
