Welcome to the Dressage Today podcast sponsored by Purina. Hosts Aviva Nebesky and Stephanie Ruff talk about the sometimes not-so-easy journey horses share with their owners, and then Nebesky answers the question “When you are halting/making any change in gait at any letter, do you want your leg and/or the center of the horse to cross the letter when the change is being made?”
Together, the hosts interview up-and-coming international rider Anna Marek. Marek began showing and training dressage horses in 2001 and is currently based in Dunnellon, Florida. With her grand prix horse, Unico, Marek rose to 12th in the nation during 2016. Just last year, she made a statement on the international stage with a team gold and individual bronze with Fire Fly at the Pan American Games in Chile. Last month, Marek finished ninth—the highest finish for a U.S. rider—with a second grand prix horse, Fayvel, at the FEI Dressage World Cup Final in Saudi Arabia. And most recently, she and Fire Fly were named to the short list for the horse-and-rider combinations traveling to Europe in hopes of making the Olympic team.
Marek loves animals and strives to make the most ethical choices possible. These two qualities, along with incredible talent, have earned her a reputation as a fierce rising competitor in the dressage arena as well as a successful, kind trainer.
