Straightness is a common area of focus with riding, but it takes on another meaning for equestrians diagnosed with scoliosis, or a curvature of the spine. The National Scoliosis Foundation says that approximately 7 million people in the U.S. are affected by the condition, meaning many equestrians deal with it in their daily lives and riding activities.

Here, Stephany Fish Crossman, a LEVEL 3 Ride With Your Mind Accredited coach, biomechanics expert and dressage trainer, explains how the pelvis is the starting point for a balanced position in the saddle and what riders can do to assess their own position.
