How to Ride a Shoulder-In

Grand Prix trainers and competitors Todd Flettrich and Ruth Hogan-Poulsen discuss and demonstrate riding the shoulder-in.

A shoulder-in is a lateral movement on three tracks. It helps improve engagement, supplemeness and freedom of your horse’s outside shoulder. When doing a shoulder-in, Todd explains that your horse should be bent and flexed in the opposite direction of which you are asking your horse to move. Todd and Ruth cover the proper aids for riding it as well as common mistakes and how to address them.
