Five-time Olympian, five-time World Championships and five-time FEI Dressage World Cup Finals veteran Peters is a renowned rider and trainer, producing and piloting several great horses to Olympic, World Cup, Pan Am Games and major Grand Prix wins and results across the globe.

Born in Wesel, Germany, Peters has trained and ridden a number of remarkable horses, reaching back to his teenage years in Germany when his father bought him a three-year-old KWPN gelding named Udon. Several years later, Peters made the choice to move to San Diego with Udon, working for others for five years, including Guenter Seidel, before going out on his own in 1991. In 1992 he became a U.S. citizen.

While riding in a clinic with the late Dr. Reiner Klimke, Peters was spotted by Lila Kommerstad who would become his first sponsor, purchasing Udon from the Peters family.  With the horse he had brought up from a three-year-old, Peters saw his dream come true as they were honored to represent the U.S. in the Atlanta Olympics where they won team bronze.

Some of his most famous mounts include Akiko Yamazaki’s Ravel and Legolas 92, Jen and Bruce Hlavacek’s Weltino’s Magic and his current mount, Suppenkasper. He and his wife, Shannon, run SPeters Dressage in San Diego, California.

As gifted at teaching as he is riding, Peters’ keen eye for details, extensive experience and insightful perspectives from the highest level of the sport to young horse fundamentals make him a natural fit for Dressage Today OnDemand. Members can look forward to additional video series, live sessions in the Dressage Today OnDemand Facebook group and more featuring Peters.

“We are so excited to bring Steffen Peters aboard as part of the Dressage Today OnDemand family,” said Stephanie Ruff, Content Manager for Dressage Today. “He brings with him a lifetime of experience and hard work and is such a well-respected member of the dressage community. We can’t wait to bring our members new videos of him teaching a variety of horse and rider combinations. They will also get a glimpse into his day-to-day training system as he works towards potentially qualifying for his sixth Olympic team and beyond.”
