How to Ride a Leg Yield

Learn how to ride a leg yield correctly with Grand Prix trainers and competitors Todd Flettrich and Ruth Hogan-Poulsen.

Properly ridden, a leg yield is where the horse travels equally forward and sideways and is flexed in the opposite direction of travel. The leg yield will likely be your horse’s first introduction to moving sideways, so you will need to help manage his balance while he his learning. Ruth and Todd also discuss common problems that occur when riding a leg yield, like over-bending your horse’s neck, losing the outside shoulder, losing impulsion and rhythym or loosing lateral or longitudinal balance.
